The Desolation of Smaug took first place this weekend with $31.4 million, but Anchorman 2 wasn’t far behind. To date, The Hobbit sequel has earned $127.5 million in the Us and over $400 million worldwide. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues took second place with $26.7 million and has earned a total of $40 million since opening on Wednesday. In third place, Disney’s Frozen continues perform well and is nearing the $200 million mark in the Us.

American Hustle expanded its theater count by 2,500 screens this weekend and earned $19.1 million. The Oscar buzz surrounding this film is likely to keep it in the top ten for quite some time. The rest of the movies on the list weren’t able to crack the $10 million mark, but that’s not bad news for movies like Saving Mr. Banks and A Madea Christmas that have relatively modest budgets.
