The Office is to be adapted for Czech TV.

Czech broadcaster CT1 has struck a deal with BBC Worldwide to produce a local-language version of the Ricky Gervais comedy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the adaptation of the sitcom will take place in the Czech Republic's second-largest city Brno, with Gervais's boss David Brent renamed Kancl - played by local actor Vaclav Kopta.

Gervais said: "Prague was the first place in the world to produce a stage version, so I'm very glad a local adaptation is coming to TV too."

"Cue jokes about Gervais and another fat check," he added.

The Office ran for two series in the UK between 2001 and 2003, and was later picked up by NBC in the Us with Steve Carell in the main role.

The Czech show will be the ninth version of the series, which has also been remade in Germany, Chile, France, Canada, Israel and Sweden. »
