Hard to believe it’s been almost a year since the death of Huell Howser, the folksy chronicler of all things weird and wonderful in California.

Kcet, the Los Angeles public TV station that Howser called home for more than 30 years, has set a marathon of fan-selected episodes of Howser’s “Visiting …” and “California’s Gold” series to run Jan. 5 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Additional episodes will air at 7:30 p.m. (his former time slot) Monday-Friday that week, capped on Saturday by back-to-back segs from 5-6 p.m.

Howser died Jan. 6, 2013 at age 67. His programs were part travelogue, part local history and always a study in colorful characters unique to the Golden State.
