Sam Worthington is confirmed to be both starring in and producing the four-hour miniseries "The Gallipoli Story" for Australian cable TV provider Foxtel.

While Worthington was linked as a producer mid-last year, he's now also onboard as actor in the role of Australian journalist Phillip Schuler.

Schuler was one of four journalists, including a young Sir Keith Murdoch (father of Rupert), who were embedded on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey during the First World War.

A joint Allied operation set out to capture Constantinople from the control of the Ottoman Empire. The attempt failed, with heavy casualties on both sides. It was the first major battle undertaken by the Anzacs (the Australian and New Zealand armies) and has become a defining moment in the history of those countries.

The mini-series follows how the journos helped trigger the decision to end the Gallipoli campaign, through their relationships with the young soldiers sent to fight. »
