20th Century Fox has acquired the film rights to Mark Millar's Starlight.

The studio will adapt the Kick-Ass creator's upcoming superhero miniseries, reports Latino Review.

The six-issue miniseries described as "Flash Gordon meets The Dark Knight Returns" was announced earlier in December.

It will centre around a hero who saved the universe 35 years before, but returned to a normal life on Earth, where no-one believed his tales.

He is called upon to ride out one last time when a rocket ship arrives on Earth.

The X-Men franchise's Simon Kinberg is expected to produce the movie.

The Goran Parlov-illustrated Starlight will kick off a new shared universe of superhero stories from the writer's Millarworld line when it arrives at Image Comics in 2014.
