McDonald, taking to the stage first, performed Five for Fighting's 'Superman', which was also recorded by 2009 X Factor champion Joe McElderry for his debut album Wide Awake.

Bailey followed, performing Demi Lovato's 'Skyscraper' - a track previously recorded by Union J and which appeared on their self-titled debut album.

Whoever wins The X Factor tonight will have their song released immediately after the show for download, with a physical release to follow later in the week.

The single will benefit Great Ormond Street Hospital and Together for Short Lives.
