Eleanor Parker, the Oscar-nominated actress best-known for playing Baroness in "The Sound of Music," has died at the age of 91.

While she was nominated for Oscars in 1950, 1951 and 1955, Parker's role as Baroness Elsa Schraeder -- the wealthy woman who steps aside to let Maria marry Captain Von Trapp -- always remained her most memorable. The actor who played Parker's on-screen fiance, Christopher Plummer, offered a touching statement about his one-time co-star. "Eleanor Parker was and is one of the most beautiful ladies I have ever known," Plummer said. "Both as a person and as a beauty. I hardly believe the sad news, for I was sure she was enchanted and would live forever."

"The Sound of Music," released in 1965, was one of Parker's last major film roles. She later appeared in character roles in movies and in television shows like "Murder, She Wrote," "Fantasy Island" and "The Love Boat." Her »
