Having acquired the rights to Terminator for a hefty $20 million, producers Megan Ellison and David Ellison are wasting little time in capitalising on their investment. Not only is a new movie trilogy in the works, with the first instalment set for release in 2015 under director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones), but it's now been announced that the sci-fi franchise is heading back to the small screen for a "companion piece" to the new movie series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thor and X-Men: First Class writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller are set to write and produce the new series, which "will follow a critical moment from the first Terminator film (1984), and where the film's story goes one way, the upcoming series will take the same moment in a completely different direction.
