Dwayne Johnson's upcoming disaster movie San Andreas has been given a release date.

New Line's project will arrive at cinemas on June 5, 2015 in 2D and 3D.

Directed by Brad Peyton, the film will centre around a huge earthquake in California, while Johnson's character attempts to travel across the state to save his daughter.

Carey Hayes and Chad Hayes (The Conjuring) wrote the latest draft for the film, with the original idea from Beau Flynn. Jeremy Passmore and Andre Fabrizio sold the original pitch to New Line.

San Andreas is expected to begin filming in the second quarter of 2014. Johnson previously teamed up with Peyton on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

Johnson will lead the cast in Hercules: The Thracian Wars next year, which opens on July 25.
