Although the first installment in Paramount’s toy-based movie franchise G.I. Joe: Rise Of Cobra was a misfire to say the least, the second film was dramatically improved both in terms of story and tone. The dark and gritty style along with the added star power of Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis certainly helped the quality of G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Despite the long delay, re-shoots and production issues that the film suffered from, it still ended up grossing slightly more than its predecessor, which lead Paramount to begin development on a third film in the series. Evan Daugherty (Snow White And Huntsman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) was hired as writer of the untitled third G.I. Joe film, which he is currently hard at work penning.
