Woody Allen reportedly will not attend the Golden Globes in January to accept a career achievement award.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced in September that Allen will be given the prestigious Cecil B DeMille Award at the 2014 ceremony.

HFPA president Theo Kingma said at the time: "There is no-one more worthy of this award than Woody Allen.

"His contributions to filmmaking have been phenomenal and he truly is an international treasure."

The organisation apparently announced that Allen would receive the award without securing that he would actually attend the gala, according to Deadline.

Highly-placed sources told the website that Allen has decided to not actually turn up to receive the Cecil B DeMille Award.

Allen has been notoriously reluctant to attend award shows throughout his career, despite the fact that he has won four Academy Awards and two Golden Globes.

One notable exception was at the 2002 Oscars ceremony »
