While I’ve never read any of Tom Clancy’s books he’s featured in, I’ve enjoyed most of the big-screen blockbusters of literary hero Jack Ryan. Chris Pine takes over the title role in this reboot from Paramount Pictures and follows previous incarnations played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck.

The trailers we’ve seen so far suggest Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is looking damn impressive and having British thespian Kenneth Branagh directing, as well as portraying the Russian antagonist, could prove a masterstroke. However, I was sold as soon as Kevin Costner came onboard.

This original film takes place prior to events of the Clancy’s book series and is not based on any of the Cold War novel plots despite a young Ryan, who is stock broker working for a billionaire in Moscow, finding himself recruited by the CIA to foil his employer’s »
