Aquaman is a priority for DC Comics, Geoff Johns has said.

The chief creative officer has hinted at big things in the future of the superhero.

"He's a priority character for the company," he told Variety.

"There is no doubt in my mind that this is one of the most well-known characters among superheroes, and in popular culture."

An animated Aquaman movie has been confirmed to be in the works, although Johns stopped short of announcing further plans for the character.

Marvel and DC have both been expanding their big and small screen franchises recently, with the Flash to debut on Arrow and a series of Marvel television shows in development with Netflix.

Wonder Woman and Nightwing have been rumoured to be appearing in Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman Vs Batman film.
