Jimmy Carr has defended Mock the Week after it was recently criticised by Ross Noble.

Noble called the programme "terrible" and took issue with its lack of improvisation and "pages and pages" of scripts used by the panellists.

Despite having never appeared on the show himself, Carr told Digital Spy ahead of the Royal Variety Performance (November 25) that he enjoyed the comedy panel quiz.

"I'm a big fan of lots of different types of TV. I think Dara [Ó Briain] is an exceptional performer," he said.

"He's just a great comedic mind, brilliant guy, and I think the show's great. What's not to like?

"I think there's always that thing of anyone in comedy can go, 'Oh, it was better in the old days when Frankie [Boyle] and Russell [Howard] were on it'.
