“There’s just a total boatload of crazy that goes with singing live for the first time when you’re 60 years old,” said Mary Steenburgen on stage Sunday night at Vibrato in Bel Air, “So I want to publicly apologize to Mr. Ted Danson for anything I might have said in the last week. In general it’s been pretty nuts at our house.”

Just prior to that confession, Steenburgen had performed the song “Cup of Trouble,” which she co-wrote for the film “Last Vegas,” with a beaming Danson, her husband of almost 20 years, leaning on every lyric, as well as Jon Turteltaub, the film’s director, Laura Dern, and Varese Sarabande Records producer Robert Townson, among those in attendance.

During the three-song mini set, Steenburgen was accompanied by singer/pianist John Proulx and trumpeter Chris Walden on flugelhorn, and even displayed a bit of accordion playing, which she also picked up rather recently. »
