Emma Thompson will receive a career salute at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

The Saving Mr Banks actress will be given the festival's 'Modern Master Award' on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the historic Arlington Theatre.

The 'Modern Master Award' is given to individuals who have had multi-faceted careers. Thompson has been hailed for both her acting and writing throughout her career.

She famously won a 'Best Writing' Academy Award for adapting Sense and Sensibility, and earned a 'Best Actress' Oscar for Howard's End.

Thompson will be following in the footsteps of previous 'Modern Master Award' winners Ben Affleck, Christopher Nolan, Sean Penn and Clint Eastwood.

Lee Daniels' The Butler stars Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker are also being honoured at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

The festival will be held from January 30 through February 9, 2014.
