The actress will star as a woman with early onset Alzheimer's disease, reports Variety.
The film will be based on Harvard neuroscientist Lisa Genova's debut novel, with The Last of Robin Hood's Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland on board to direct.
Moore will play Alice Howland, a 50-year-old Harvard psychology professor at the height of her career who begins to notice lapses in her memory.
With a diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer's, the fiercely independent woman must come to terms with her diagnosis and the ways in which it will change her life.
Moore was recently seen in Kimberly Peirce's Carrie remake. She will appear in the upcoming Seventh Son and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2.
Still Alice will begin shooting in New York in February 2014.
