Michelle Monaghan is to star in an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks's novel The Best of Me.

The Best of Me is the story of a former high school couple who reunite years after their initial split while visiting their North Carolina hometown.

Sparks is co-producing the movie as part of an agreement between Warner Bros and Relativity, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Gambit's Michael Hoffman will be directing the upcoming movie from a script by J Mills Goodloe and Will Fetters.

The Best of Me is the ninth Sparks book to be made into a feature film.

His previous hit romantic dramas include Dear John, The Lucky One, Safe Haven, The Notebook and A Walk to Remember.

Monaghan memorably played Julia Meade in the Mission: Impossible film series, and has also appeared in Source Code, Machine Gun Preacher and Due Date.
