The Weinstein Company has announced that principal photography on the big-screen adaptation of Lois Lowry's 1994 dystopian Ya classic and Newberry Medal winner "The Giver" gets underway on October 7. The film stars quite the cast: Weinstein Oscar fave Meryl Streep ("Iron Lady"), Jeff Bridges ("Crazy Heart"), Brenton Thwaites ("Maleficent"), Alexander Skarsgard ("True Blood"), Katie Holmes ("Batman Begins"), Cameron Monaghan ("Vampire Academy") and singer Taylor Swift. Bridges could use a lift after the ignominious flop "R.I.P.D." this summer.  Aussie Phillip Noyce ("Salt") is set to direct, with the adaptation penned by Michael Mitnick ("The Current War"). It will be shot on location in Cape Town, South Africa.
