DreamWorks has tapped “Blue Valentine” helmer Derek Cianfrance to direct “The Light Between Oceans,” the company announced Tuesday.

Pic is based on the debut novel from M.L. Stedman and will be produced by Heyday FilmsDavid Heyman, along with Jeffrey Clifford.

Rosie Alison, who brought the book into Heyday, will exec produce.

Story takes place on a remote Australian island after World War I, where a lighthouse keeper and his wife face a moral dilemma when a dead man and a two-month-old infant wash up in a boat on shore.
