A pair of runaway teens deliver romance and thrills in sweet family adventure Standing Up Coming-of-age dramas are fast becoming a rare movie genre unless the kids have superhero capes or include girls named Katniss Everdeen or Bella Swan. Standing Up, writer/director D.J. Caruso’s warm-hearted and witty adaptation of Brock Cole’s 1987 teen novel The Goats, delivers plenty of heroism and teen-friendly excitement, all grounded by courage, resourcefulness and collaboration instead of any unearthly powers. Howie (Chandler Canterbury) is an eleven-year-old boy who runs away from bullies at his summer camp with Grace (Annalise Basso), a twelve-year-old girl and fellow teen outcast. Embarrassed by a cruel prank that leaves them alone on an island lake, Howie and Grace set off on a three-day journey to get away from the bullies and meet up with Grace’s mother (Radha Mitchell). »
