There's trouble in Bohemia, always a favourite setting for Noah Baumbach, the writer/director behind comedy dramas The Squid and the Whale and Greenberg. His real-life partner Greta Gerwig was the saviour of the latter film and she's the lynchpin of this one, too, co-writing as well as starring as a 27-year-old New Yorker trying to break into the world of dance.

No, this isn't another Flashdance rip-off, but Frances is guilty of chasing her dreams wholeheartedly, both in her professional and her personal life. Her friendship with Sophie (Mickey Sumner) always comes first, though. At least early on when Baumbach captures them play-fighting in Central Park, chilling at their apartment and dissecting each other's sex lives.
