Update: David Fincher's big-screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn's mystery thriller "Gone Girl," starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, has settled on a release date. It's slated for October 3, 2014. This is the same weekend Fincher's Oscar-winning "The Social Network" (for Adapted Screenplay, Editing and Original Score) hit theaters in 2010. Earlier: Tyler Perry is now confirmed to play slick attorney Tanner Bolt in David Fincher's "Gone Girl," adapted from the bestseller by Gillian Flynn. Per Deadline, Neil Patrick Harris is nearing a deal to play Desi Collings, the ex-boyfriend of the gone girl of the title, Amy Dunne (to be played by Brit actress Rosamund Pike). Meanwhile, Kim Dickens ("Treme," "The Blind Side"), Patrick Fugit ("Thanks for Sharing," "Almost Famous") and relative newcomer Carrie Coon (upcoming TV series "Ironside") are rounding out the cast.
