Even "Man of Steel's" biggest detractors have to give it this much: Krypton looked cool. And it looked cool because of talented folks at Weta Digital, like visual effects supervisors Dan Lemmon and Joe Leterri.
Weta's work is on full display in a new behind-the-scenes "Man of Steel" featurette that was posted on Wired.com today. It delves into the technology and aesthetic of Krypton, which relies on in-movie technology the Weta team referred to as "liquid geo."
"This stemmed from an idea Zack Snyder had," says Leterri. "He wanted to do something that was interesting and different in the way that you saw information presented. He didn't want to do just a typical screen. One of the ideas Zack had was to make it a little more tactile: the shapes really needed to transform. You need something with that look, but in a sense you need something that's more liquid. »
