Philip Seymour Hoffman has joined the cast of Daniel Espinosa’s film adaptation of “Child 44.”

The Richard Price penned drama is adapted from Tom Rob Smith’s bestseller, “Child 44,” the first novel of a trilogy that centers around a disgraced member the Soviet Union military police during the Stalin era who investigates a series of child murders that connect to high members of the political party.

Hoffman joins Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman and Joel Kinnaman in the film, though the specific roles each actor is set to play remain undisclosed. Summit Entertainment plans to release the film sometime in 2014.

Ridley Scott is producing under his Scott Free Productions banner with Michael Schaefer and Greg Shapiro. Worldview Entertainment is co-financing the project. Christopher Woodrow, Molly Conners, Maria Cestone and Sarah Johnson Redlich are on board as executive producers with Douglas Urbanski.
