It's been a big Summer for gay rights, as the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act and dismissed California's Proposition 8. In just the last few years, there has been a cultural shift in how Americans view same-sex unions. A recent poll found that today more Americans support gay marriage than oppose it, compared to 2008, when 58 percent of Americans opposed it. One cause for this increased tolerance could be how outspoken public figures have become about their own sexuality. Just today, Prison Break's Wentworth Miller revealed he was gay in a letter that declined an invitation to a film festival in Russia, saying, "I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly."
