Relativity Media has taken U.S. rights to Carlo Carlei’s adaptation of  William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” starring Hailee Steinfeld as  Juliet and Douglas Booth as Romeo, and plans a Sept. 6 limited release.

The film was shot early last year in Italy in Mantua, the Northern Italian city to which Romeo was banished in the play, and at Rome’s Cinecitta Studios. Julian Fellowes (“Downton Abbey”) penned the script and produced along with Ileen Maisel, Lawrence Elman, Julian Fellowes, Nadja Swarovski, Simon Bosanquet, Alexander Koll, Dimitra Tsingou, Doug Mankoff and Andrew Spaulding as a co-production of  Amber Entertainment, Swarovski Entertainment and Echo Lake Entertainment.

Cast includes Paul Giamatti, Damian Lewis (“Homeland”), Ed Westwick (“Gossip Girl”), Stellan Skarsgard and Leslie Manville.
