Midnight Special: Michael Shannon (aka the villainous Zod in the upcoming Man of Steel) will star in Jeff Nichols' sci-fi chase film Midnight Special, which has been acquired by Warner Bros. It will be the first studio project for Nichols, who has worked with Shannon on all three of his previous films -- Shotgun Stories, Take Shelter and the currently playing Mud. Production is scheduled to begin in February 2014; Nichols previously said he wanted to make "a 1980s John Carpenter movie," perhaps like the great Starman, which bodes well for Midnight Special.
