After topping the Us box office at the start of the month, Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake has clearly lived up to its high expectations. In honour of the film opening in cinemas across the UK today, we take a look at the top 10 horror movies to watch in 2013.

Evil Dead

Fede Alvarez’s remake of the classic Sam Raimi horror film had its debut out at SXSW, and the intervening weeks held a lot of strong positive buzz and anticipation before its Us release earlier in the month.

Early reviews were promising one of the best horror movies of the year, and the $25.7m. it opened with in the States should see it sit firmly amongst the year’s most successful movies in the genre.

By comparison, Paranormal Activity’s highest-grossing weekend (which was, in fact, its fifth weekend, which saw it expanding wide across the country) brought home $21m. »
