Production has begun on the sequel to 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes - and here's the first batch of set photos to prove it.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is set 15 years after the first movie which now sees two separate camps - a small human colony in San Francisco and Caesar's ape army. The story splits its time between these two camps, with Caesar trying to maintain order over his subjects and the humans trying to survive.

The sequel is directed by Matt Reeves (Let Me In), who replaced RotPotA director Rupert Wyatt last year, and sees an almost entirely new cast join the film including Keri Russell (Dark Skies), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) with Judy Greer (Carrie) joining as a love interest for the returning Andy Serkis.
