The “Point Break” remake is officially happening: studio Alcon announced it's found its director for the project, Ericson Core. The reboot of the 1991 cult classic -- starring Keanu Reeves as an FBI agent who goes undercover with a group of bank robbing surfers led by Patrick Swayze -- was announced in late 2011, but hadn't made many waves since then. Now, Core is on board, as is screenwriter Kurt Wimmer. Core is best known for his work as a cinematographer on films like “The Fast and the Furious” and “Daredevil,” and made his directorial debut in 2006 with the Mark Wahlberg vehicle “Invincible.” Wimmer has plenty of experience with the action genre, too, having co-written last year's “Total Recall” remake, in addition to penning “Salt” and “Law Abiding Citizen.” Those chops should come in handy on “Point Break,” though both men have some big shoes to fill.
