Actor Robert Redford addressed his surprise casting in Captain America: The Winter Soldier at a Los Angeles Q&A session last night. Here's what he had to say about why he decided to join the Marvel Phase II sequel.

"I'm doing this film because it's different. It's a new thing for me. I think these films are really powerful. I think they're great. This is the kind of film I would have loved to see as a kid. I like the idea of stepping into new territory. I'm excited by it. I also think it's a good bunch of people who really know what they're doing."

While his character's full identity has not been revealed, he will be playing a senior leader at the covert S.H.I.E.L.D. organization.

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are directing the sequel from a screenplay by Captain America: The First Avenger writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. »
