Over a year ago, we got word that The Grey and The A-Team director Joe Carnahan was taking on a remake the 1974 vigilante film Death Wish which featured Charles Bronson as Paul Kersey, a liberal architect who morphs into an assassin after his wife and daughter are brutally attacked. He then takes it upon himself to clean up the criminal streets of New York City. The director was also writing the script, and even considering Frank Grillo for a role. However, Variety reports Carnahan has left the project after having trouble finding a lead, and now Miss Bala director Gerardo Naranjo is in talks to take over the project. The studios are still using Carnahan's script, so it sounds like the studios may not have liked who Carnahan was trying to lock down for leads, and decided to get someone else they could work with a little easier.
