Universal Pictures has changed the Us IMAX release date for the Tom Cruise sci-fi movie Oblivion.

The movie will now open on April 19 instead of April 12.

Oblivion's IMAX date change will now allow Cruise more time to make publicity rounds, according to Variety.

The move by Universal also gives the studio more time to focus on the re-release of Jurassic Park 3D, which is due out on April 5 in the Us.

Oblivion will now go up against Ashton Kutcher's Steve Jobs biopic jOBS at the box office.

In Oblivion, Cruise plays a veteran soldier who travels to a distant planet with the mission to destroy the remains of an alien race.

Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight Rises) and Andrea Riseborough (Shadow Dancer) also star.

Oblivion will be released in the UK on April 12.
