What was originally planned as "Thief 4" is now simply "Thief," a reboot of the first-person stealth series, coming to the PC and bypassing the current generation of consoles. Square Enix announced the "reinvention" this morning as part of Game Informer's April cover reveal for the 2014 release.

The reveal sees Garrett, a new thief stalking the streets of The City, weaving his way in and out of a cauldron of social unrest. According to Game Informer, the reboot will require Garrett to be cognizant of his environment in order to survive encounters with enemies and would-be victims.

Here's the official synopsis:

Time has moved on. Power has shifted. New greed replaces the old.

But to remain free in the city of chains – that is still the greatest prize.

First I stole to survive… then I survived to steal.

I am one man; I hear your secrets, see your hidden truths.

I am the shadows, »
