Superman Returns director Bryan Singer has said that he is "anxious" to see Zack Snyder's reboot of the franchise Man of Steel.

Singer's own Superman Returns was tied to the continuity of Christopher Reeves's first two superhero films, but the movie earned mixed reviews and a disappointing box office take.

Speaking to The Huffington Post, the filmmaker admitted that Superman Returns was too strongly connected to the Reeves films.

"I think for audiences - some audiences - it was probably a bit too nostalgic," Singer said. "But, for me, I am such a terribly big fan of the original story and the original movie.

"The first act of Superman: The Movie is what taught me great actors and great gravitas can be brought to a comic book movie."
