Kick-Ass 2's release date has been moved from June 28 to August 16, Universal Pictures has announced.

The studio made the change to accommodate another comic book adaptation, Baltasar Kormakur's 2 Guns, which has been slated for August 2.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson will reprise his role as the title character for the sequel, with Christopher Mintz-Plasse returning as the villainous Red Mist, who comes to be known as The Motherf**ker.

Chloe Moretz is also on board as the foul-mouthed Hit-Girl, who the actress claims will be portrayed in a more mature light in the follow-up.

Newcomers to the series include Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Stripes, Donald Faison as Doctor Gravity and Lindy Booth as Night Bitch.

Universal has also announced that Robert Schwentke's R.I.P.D. will be released in 3D when it lands in cinemas on July 19.
