Johnny Depp is now confirmed as the star of Wally Pfister’s debut film as director, Transcendence. Pfister has made a name for himself as cinematographer extraordinaire behind the camera for all of Christopher Nolan’s films since Memento, as well as taking the time to work on other projects such as The Italian Job and Moneyball.

His first film as director, sees a scientific couple working on the world’s first self-aware computer. Unfortunately those bloomin’ terrorists are out to ruin everyone’s fun again, and so the husband has to be ‘uploaded’ into the computer. Thus, transcending his mortal confines.

The script is by Jack Paglan and the film is currently looking for a female lead with the likes of Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt and Rebecca Hall rumoured as being up for the part. As the film is still in pre-production, no release date has been set just yet. »
