There's been interest in doing a modernized version of the 1990 Joel Schumacher movie Flatliners for a very long time now. After years of talking about it, word has come that the remake has landed a director. One hell of a director.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and "Under the Dome" pilot director Niels Arden Oplev has signed on to direct the redux, and we can only hope that Kiefer Sutherland (arguably the best part of the original) will be brought back for more. The remake has been penned by Ben Ripley.

The original Flatliners centered on a group of medical students – Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts, and William Baldwin – who subject themselves to near-death experiences in order to see if anything lies beyond the big sleep.
