Freida Pinto has backed Argo to take home an Oscar at this weekend's Academy Awards.

Argo has been tipped as a frontrunner in the 'Best Picture' Oscar category due to the Iran hostage crisis film taking home the equivalent prize at the Golden Globes and BAFTAs.

The Ben Affleck-directed movie appears to have struck a chord with Slumdog Millionaire star Pinto, who has expressed hopes that Argo will earn Oscar gold.

"One of the films that I was truly surprised with... [and] truly entertained [by] was Argo," Pinto told Et Online.

The actress continued: "It was an all-round entertaining film for me... I was on the edge of my seat throughout the film. Good luck to the film."

Seth MacFarlane hosts the Academy Awards, airing live this Sunday (February 24), starting with pre-show red carpet coverage from 7pm Et (4pm Pt) on ABC in the Us.
