We were left bemused as to why Matthew Vaughn had declined to return for another Kick-ass (although he still serves as a producer). We were even more taken aback when he dropped out of directing a sequel to his excellent X-men prequel, First Class. What was up with the underrated director? After all, he’d done such a splendid job on both. Alas, we now know he was shortlisted to direct Disney/Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Episode VII, but was pipped to the post by geek-God, J.J. Abrams.

Again, Vaughn is onboard as producer of X-men: Days Of Future Past, which sees a directing return to the franchise for Bryan Singer. Yet, we’ve heard very little of any directing gigs following the jaw-dropping news of the Jedi variety.
