Jason Lee is to star in a Us remake of BBC drama Second Sight.

The original UK series starred Clive Owen as a maverick cop who develops a rare disease and starts going blind.

My Name Is Earl star Lee will play the lead role of detective Tanner in the new CBS version, TVLine reports.

Lee's Tanner will develop an ocular disorder that causes him to experience strange visions and hallucinations, which he utilises to solve crimes.

Homeland's Michael Cuesta has written the new Second Sight pilot and will exec produce with CSI's Carol Mendelsohn. Original series creator Paula Milne is also attached to the project as an executive producer.

Jason Lee's past television credits include TNT's cop drama Memphis Beat and recent stints on NBC series Up All Night and Raising Hope.

The 42-year-old actor's filmography includes 1995's Mallrats, 2000's Almost Famous and 2001's Vanilla Sky.
