2012 was a great year for movies, and you need look no further than this year’s slate of Best Picture nominees for evidence. But while the much lauded motion pictures are riveting, there are moments when the award shows themselves can leave something to be desired. The Oscars are the crowning glory of the winter awards season, and though the telecast always starts off strong with the Supporting Actor categories and ends strong with the Best Picture award, the middle parts can be a tad dull. The Academy has given the job of hosting to Seth MacFarlane, who, hopefully, will be well able to keep the middle hour of the show running along at a nice clip.
