French TV gore-fest Les Revenants is soundtracked by Scotland's darkest doom merchants. Here, main man Stuart Braithwaite reveals his favourite undead flicks

The idea of being overrun by zombies used to be terrifying. Now pop culture is so infested with them, from Warm Bodies to The Walking Dead, that the natural reaction is just to shrug: World War Zzzzzz. There are still mindbending zombie stories out there if you know where to look, though. Take Les Revenants, an unsettling TV drama that's been a record-breaking hit in its native France (Shameless creator Paul Abbott is working on an English-language remake). Canal+ tapped Scottish masters of menace Mogwai for its spooky soundtrack, so we asked singer-guitarist Stuart Braithwaite to recommend more offbeat zombie tales worth digging up.
