First linked to the role last week, "Easy A" actress Emma Stone has reportedly been officially offered the role of Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming "Spider-Man" franchise reboot at Sony Pictures reports Deadline.

While the character served as the main romantic love interest in the Sam Raimi-directed films, insider remarks have indicated that the character won't serve in such a capacity at least in this first outing.

The main female lead will be Gwen Stacey and on Friday it was reported that the shortlist had been narrowed down to five names - Dianna Agron ("Glee"), Mia Wasikowska ("Alice in Wonderland"), Georgina Haig ("Underbelly: The Golden Mile") and Dominique McElligott ("Moon")

Far more dubious however are rumors late last week that Philip Seymour Hoffman is in discussions to play the villain, which could be Venom again. »
