BBC2 series starring Warwick Davis, which failed to repeat success of Extras and The Office, to end after one-hour special

Ricky Gervais's BBC2 sitcom Life's Too Short will not return for a second series, bowing out with a one-hour special guest starring Val Kilmer.

The comedy, starring Warwick Davis and written and directed by Gervais and long-time collaborator Stephen Merchant, failed to repeat the success of his previous BBC2 projects, Extras and The Office.

Gervais rejected criticism that the show was cruel and offensive, and said on Twitter last year that a second series was being planned for the spring of this year.

But if he does one it will not be appearing on BBC2. The one-off episode will pick up from where the first series ended, featuring Kilmer along with the return of regulars Les Dennis, Keith Chegwin and Shaun Williamson.
