There can be no doubt that the winter storms in the Northeast took a bite out of box office receipts this weekend, but it wasn't big enough to dampen the antics of Identity Thief. The heavily marketed comedy managed a respectable $36 million opening, more than matching its $35 million budget and putting it on track towards profitability. Audiences were slightly less enthusiastic about Soderberg's latest and, if his recent conversations with the press are any indication, his last film. With just $10 million Side Effects came in a distant third place. Silver Linings Playbook slipped to fourth place this weekend, but dropping just 10% from last week the film is still going strong in its 13th week of release.
