Melissa McCarthy-Jason Bateman comedy Identity Thief overperforms at the North American box office; Steven Soderbergh Side Effects opens weakly Starring McCarthy and Bateman, Seth Gordon's Identity Thief, which has been greeted by plenty of poor reviews, scored an estimated $11.2 million at 3,141 venues this past Friday, as per figures found at the website Box Office Mojo. The film's first-day take was quite a bit above expectations. Thus, instead of taking in circa $25 million by Sunday evening as some box-office prognosticators had predicted, Identity Thief should earn around $33 million-$35 million, depending on the severity of the havoc caused by winter storm Nemo, which has just blanketed with snow the U.S. northeast.
