Walt Disney Pictures CEO Bob Iger has confirmed the rumours that stand-alone Star Wars spin-off films are in consideration. These would be independent to J.J. Abrams’ new Star Was trilogy that has already entered preproduction and the first film of which is due for release in 2015… but importantly would be released in-between the new trilogy, meaning we could soon enter a period where a new Star Wars movie is released annually.

Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are writing the movies that would be “derived from great Star Wars characters”.

The spin-off Star Wars film announcement comes just one day after rumours hit suggesting that Walt Disney Pictures were planning a movie based on Yoda. This news doesn’t confirm the Yoda movie will be first, or will happen at all, but certainly gives it major credence that it is being seriously considered.

Iger told CNBC today;
