Regular readers of these hallowed pages will probably know something about 47 Ronin's elusive status. Directed by Carl Rinsch, it's billed as a fantastical action samurai epic, with Keanu Reeves heading up a largely Japanese cast of stars, including Rinko Kikuchi - she'll star in this summer's Pacific Rim.

With an incredibly lavish budget, the film began shooting in 2011, but apparent problems behind the scenes have led to repeated delays; once intended for release in late 2012, it was then bumped to February 2013, and is now scheduled to appear this Christmas. Amid the hitches, dark rumours began to form that Rinsch had been removed from the editing room by an impatient studio.
